It was only four years ago that Lavrans Svendsen had a spiritual awakening that gave him the desire to pursue music.

At the last second, mentor Jarle Bernhoft turned his chair and chose Lavrans in a "blind audition". And since then, Lavrans has impressed both the viewers and the mentors.
But until quite recently, not even Lavrans' father knew about his son's singing talent and communication skills.
Hiding the voice
Lavrans' father, who has now also become his manager, had actually not heard his son sing until last summer.
- I've been hiding it a bit and haven't felt that I've been good enough. So I've been singing a bit to myself when I'm home alone, Lavrans Svendsen tells TV2 and continues:
- I went to choir for a week or something like that, and then I went to the music course for a month. But nothing came of it.
Friday evening is the semi-final of "The Voice" and in recent months you have been able to see Lavrans unfold and impress in the music programme.
- If you have so little singing experience, how did you end up in "The Voice"?
- I started singing more and more after I had a spiritual awakening. And then I understood communication in a new way. Then singing became so important to me.
He says that then he also sang more than ever at home.
- And then I realized that I wanted to sing a little in public as well. So I sang at work, a pizza restaurant in the Old Town in Fredrikstad.
- And then I got a very good response. Much bigger than I expected. I was going to sing a song and then it was just like: "Sing more." Sing more". It was absolutely wild.
The audience at the time thought he should sign up for "The Voice". And so it happened.
The spiritual awakening
When asked if he can elaborate a little more on what the spiritual awakening was all about, he answers this:
- In short, I understood that there was more behind it than I first thought.
- More behind what?
- More behind life. I thought maybe life was just random and that it was something you had to go through. I realized that maybe there was something more to it. That's the point. Things that happen, ups and downs, there's something about it. It's instructive, it's something you have to experience - he explains and says that it happened three or four years ago.
Lilli Bendriss has become an important part of Lavrans' life now. The two met each other for the first time after she held a live podcast recording in Oslo a few years ago and she is among those who cheer him on.
- I have a kind of motherly feeling of protection for Lavrans, that I want to be here for any questions he has. It's almost like he's my grandson. I will follow him. We have become very good friends, and of course I cheer for him in "The Voice" - she has previously told TV 2.
Lavrans says that she helped wake him up.
- I listened to her podcast and then she talks about the spiritual. I thought it was interesting but couldn't quite get it. But I listened to it more and suddenly I had that experience, and then I understood what she was talking about. So she has clearly helped wake me up - he says.
The most important thing is not to win
The 22-year-old says that he greatly appreciates all the love he has received through his participation in "The Voice".
- I think everyone can identify with the fact that you are a little critical of yourself. "Am I good enough?". But I've realized that maybe I'm good enough then. I also don't think you should think about it in terms of performance, but rather how you feel about yourself. You should not think that "I am good enough because I do this or that", but that you are good enough just because you are.
- How important is it for you to win?
- The most important thing is not to win, I think I have won so much already. But it would have been extremely fun to win, and I also feel that it would have been a kind of seal that there is room for someone like me.
He has experienced tremendous response all over the world. The one song he sang in "knockout", "Stay" by Rihanna, has been played six million times on "TikTok".
He confirms that there are many people who have contacted him and want a piece of him.
- "The whole world" has made contact.
- How do you feel about it?
- Huge. I didn't expect that at all.
- Many people want to thank me, and say that they got something out of it. And that's why I do it, so it's very rewarding.
- Will there be many exciting offers?
- Yes it will. Clearly. But there is not much I can say yes to now, until possibly after "The Voice".
