Lavrans Svendsen:

Is in dialogue with MGP

– We have had Lavrans in our sights

Lavrans Svendsen (22) has taken Norway by storm on "The Voice." Now he's aiming for a foreign country.

– Wow, this is sick. I'm going to be busy in the future, because there are several things I have to get done – Lavrans Svendsen (22) told TV 2 shortly after the final of "The Voice" last Friday.

Despite not winning, the new artist can already say that the program has been a bit of a stepping stone for his career.

Barely a week after the 22-year-old came in second place in the singing competition, several people have contacted him with a desire for future collaborations. Some of the offers come from abroad.

Lavrans tells this together with his mother Carine Wictoria Svendsen over the phone when TV 2 calls to hear how the last week has been.

– We are very keen that this will be right for Lavrans. His dad receives all kinds of requests, and he doesn't even have time to go through everything. So we have to sit down to look at it, and find out what he should accept and what he shouldn't, says mom Carine.

Receives international requests

It is father Tom Ole Svendsen who has taken on the responsibility as manager for Lavrans, and is therefore the one who has the most control over what happens in his son's career going forward.

– There are several people who have contacted me and want to work with me. Dad has had the most contact with them. There are some from the USA and some Norwegians – says Lavrans.

In his wildest dreams, the 22-year-old has already left his home country to tour Europe and the rest of the world. Now it looks like those dreams are finally coming true.

– I have always imagined that I would go out into the world when it comes to music – he says, adding that he is unlikely to stay in Norway for long.

– Norway will always be my home no matter what, but I think I'll go out into the world a bit and perform there. But we'll see how an eventual album goes, and how it's received.

Connects to MGP

Before "The Voice," Lavrans had little experience with music. When he guested on "God Morgen Norge" ["Good Morning Norway"] in May, he said that not even his father had heard him sing until last summer.

His top priority now is to release his own album. In the singing competition, he has performed several well-known songs such as "Stay" by Rihanna, "Another Love" by Tom Odell and "Use Somebody" by Kings of Leon.

So far, fans have not heard any original songs by the young man from Fredrikstad.

But mom Carine makes an exciting revelation:

– You've tried writing some songs with MGP. You can tell, right?

– Yes, I've written some songs at a songwriting camp – he answers.

After his very first blind audition, where he performed "Human" by Rag'n'Bone Man, NRK contacted the 22-year-old [NRK - The Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation - in Norwegian: "Norsk rikskringkasting", lit. translation "Norwegian Realm's Broadcasting"].

They wanted to invite him to participate in a songwriting camp in connection with MGP [Melodi Grand Prix - an annual music competition organised by Norwegian public broadcaster NRK - it determines who will represent Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest].

There, you are put into groups consisting of artists, songwriters and producers.

Together, they are given the task of writing songs which will later be reviewed by a jury who selects the best candidates.

If there is a good match between song and artist, it could mean participation in Norway's largest music competition.

– It was very fun and exciting, he says about the experience from the songwriting camp.

Project manager for Melodi Grand Prix, Stig Karlsen, can confirm this to TV 2.

– We have had Lavrans in our sights for a long time, and it is true that his name came up in connection with preparations for one of this year's MGP camps.

Karlsen further explains that Lavrans has everything you look for in an Eurovision artist:

– The voice, the artistry and the attitude – emphasizes the project manager.

Unsure if he will participate

Karlsen says that they are working with a lot of artists and songwriters at the moment, but adds that if they find gold among those who participated in the songwriting camp, the path towards MGP participation is very much present.

– Let's see what time brings with regard to MGP and Lavrans. He has a bright future as an artist anyway, and we want to congratulate him on his fantastic performance on "The Voice."

Lavrans is unsure whether he actually wants to participate in Melodi Grand Prix. The decision will be determined solely by his feelings, the 22-year-old explains.

– It could be both yes and no. Yes – if I had felt that it was the perfect song and the perfect stagecraft, then I would have said yes. But if it is not, then it is easy to say no. It is important that it feels right, simply.

The mother adds that it is very important that what her son does in the future is characterized by quality and honesty.

– I'm in no hurry. There's no goal to be on that stage, what's a goal for me is to make something that resonates with people. But MGP is a very nice arena if everything feels right – the artist concludes.
